First Week of Advent

Love & Joy Come To You

Sunday of the long eating and visiting marathon. Mr. Pom and I awoke to - SNOW! Coming down fast and furious. We debated: stay under the covers and snuggle or throw on our clothes and head out before 8:00 for the first snow??

The first snow won out and we drove off on the parkway to see if we could find blueberry pancakes. We exited quickly when we saw a car careen around a corner and head right off, thankfully onto a grass median. We ended up at the diner by the water and I had oatmeal with granola and he had scrambled eggs and spicy potatoes.

(My camera went kaput in Cape Cod so I am sorry that unless Santa brings one down the chimney, my posts will be a little barren for now. The Teen is lending me her camera but I have a hard time getting her to charge it and find the cable to upload...)

The snow dissipated quickly and it's been a cold, drizzly rain ever since. So we hopped back in the car and headed home where we threw into the oven the last turkey of the holiday along with a whole dish of cornbread chestnut stuffing that I had made for us, plus mashed potatoes and roasted sweet potatoes. We ate midday, rare for us, because Mystery Man has to go back to school.

Yesterday our upstate cousins and aunt and uncle came down to meet Cucciolo, who was very good (despite a ....bowel explosion....in the middle of my sister's  dining room right before dinner. You never saw Mrs. Pom move so fast with papertowels and Lysol in your lifeand we are very thankful that they like the bare floors style of decorating and not expensive rugs...).Cucciolo even got to play with his first dog. Honestly, I don't think he had any idea that other dogs existed and he went into extreme panic mode, barking, charging, and then cowering behind our legs. After a bit, he warmed up to Tootsie, who is the MATURE age of 2.5 (my cousins are laughing uproariously at this) and soon they were tumbling all over the place. In a few minutes, Tootsie discovered Cucciolo's bone and would have nothing to do with him despite Cucciolo's constant entreaties, butt sniffing, charging, etc. Ah, a window into the future when we bring Mama Cucciolo home!

Friday I went into the city with The Teen and Niece L. The plan was to walk off all the food we ate on Thursday. We did touristy stuff like visit Bryant Park and all the Christmas vendors and eat at Le Pain Quotidien, our favorite lunch place. I think The Teen ate a cup of homemade ricotta and a cup of pesto from the Tuscan platter all by herself. Then we staked out the Barnes and Noble that was having a book signing with The Jonas Brothers but we were thrown out once they knew we weren't one of the 500 girls who had wristbands after spending THREE days sleeping on the sidewalk.

[Note: The Teen will never give me her camera if I don't put in the disclaimer that SHE has NOTHING to do with The Jonas Brothers and was only along for the ride with Niece L.)

Thanksgiving was splendid and full and entertaining with Sister #1 up from North Carolina and all the Sisters, Bros In Laws, and kids and The Empress. I can't wait to show you Sister's #5 dining room, with the twin tables set for 18 in all. She could run an inn without any problems.

And now off to finish my artwork for CPS, do a run between the raindrops to Borders and Starbucks, and then face the workweek.

Packed MM turkey, stuffing, a dollop of cornbread, some sweet potatoe pie and chocolate pudding pie and I hope I never see any of that food again for another year!
