The Moments Between
April 12, 2012
Easter was relaxed and lovely and filled with good food and no one even freaked out over the fact that the bridesmaids gowns, ordered 15 months ago, were a hot mess at the fitting and now we have 6 weeks to find new ones.
Ahem.
In between, The Bride's very old car needs a very expensive repair and the couple experienced their first joint financial decision and I'm proud to say they managed it very well.
In the good news column, they found a wonderful apartment, right across from a nearby train station, and in the exact location they wanted.
Me, I am riding the high of spring. I have to fight the urge to turn the wheel north towards the Cape every day on my way back to the office from court. I am entranced with how long the blooms have lasted on the trees and how slowly they are shedding the blossoms and turning green. The warm days and cold nights have drawn out this process and the beauty of the white blossoms slowly tinging with green each day leaves me speechless and wistful every morning.
I have not managed to plant a single bulb since we've lived here. The fall just seems to get away from me in the garden. So instead, I am filling the house with flowers and enjoying the variety of the blooms. The sweet bouquet above was a gift from The Fiance's family for Easter. So charming and so thoughtful.
Mr. Pom brought me home a pink hydrangea. He knows my favorite flowers. I never worry about the color of the hydrangeas because I know that once planted in the garden they will slowly deepen to a lilac just one breath between pink and purple.
The Easter meal is eaten and the dishes put away. It is 6 weeks to the wedding. There are dresses to find, alter, hem; shoes to be bought and wraps to be found; program, table numbers, and placecards to be printed; and the seating chart to be done - again and again.
How lovely amidst all the "busy-ness" is the season quietly advancing, the trees festooning, the gardens greening, the bulbs bursting, and the birds twittering outside my window at dawn.
This weekend we are headed to the Cape. I don't think the lilacs are in bloom yet, but I am going to rent a bike and take my favorite trail through Brewster and check them out. There are lilac hedges there that are over two stories high. They are waiting for me to get off my bike, take out my watercolors, and try to capture that moment between pink and purple on the page.
